Street Cats South Canterbury

Street Cats South Canterbury is a registered charity (number CC50865) that aims to vastly reduce the stray cat population within the South Canterbury area. We started in June 2014 and since then we have re homed over 1500 cats and kittens. Most of these strays have come from residential properties where previous tenants have left behind an unneutered cat and it has gone on to breed numerous kittens, which have become a problem in the neighbourhood. We also have rescued a large number from commercial areas and farms. Each cat/kitten in SCSC care is vet checked, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, deflead, wormed and socialized before being placed in a forever home. The average cost per cat/kitten is $200 which includes all the mentioned costs plus food and other vet costs. We charge an adoption fee which only covers part of the overall cost, the rest is paid for by way of donations, fundraising, selling donated items and out of our own pockets. We are fortunate enough to have 11 fantastic fosterers who have taken in and cared for dozens of cats and kittens and nursing them back to health before going onto their forever homes
