Fairy Godmother Project

Fairy Godmother Project’s (FGP) became a non-profit in 2012 with a mission to ease the burden of everyday life for local families who have a child in treatment for a form of pediatric cancer. FGP provides support for our families from point of contact until the end of treatment. FGP focuses the majority of their efforts on the parents to alleviate their stress through both emotional and financial support, allowing the parents to better care for themselves and their families. Presently, FGP has two different programs that focus on the parents’ stress, health and wellness. The Family Services Program provides financial relief through bill payment, monthly meals, house cleaning, lawn care, grocery and gas cards. The Stargazers Program is focused on providing resources to our parents who have lost their child to cancer. When the child is placed in hospice FGP works closely with them, provides resources, assists with all aspects of funeral costs . As a member of this program, once the child passes, the parents are eligible to attend informal support groups for the parents, an online support group, receive cards from FGP on important days, and can have FGP hosted events on days of importance. All of these focus heavily on the parents’ well-being especially mental health with the idea they can the provide a healthier environment for the children. While this may seem small, the families report a decrease in stress and a feeling of relief knowing they have support from FGP.
