Northern VA: $15,100 Donated
Through Impact Club, as Impact Venture Capitalists, we invest heavily in local charities that demonstrate a powerful “Story Engine,” and have proven their willingness to fight for their cause – by competing in and winning a high-stakes competition. As a result, Impact Club, through Impact Venture Capitalism has dramatically multiplied the Impact that a single person can have on charities in their local community.
The Charities
Comfort Cases has roots right here in Prince William County, with Rob Scheer, Stonewall Jackson alumnus. At the age of ten Rob’s parents died and he was placed in foster care. Rob carried what he owned from home to home in a trash bag. Rob aged out of the system at eighteen and became homeless. He relied on the kindness of teachers and he often slept in his car. Rob joined the military and then entered the business world becoming a successful businessman. He was starting a new chapter in his life and he and his partner, Reece, decided they wanted to adopt. They became foster parents.
Fairy Godmother Project’s (FGP) became a non-profit in 2012 with a mission to ease the burden of everyday life for local families who have a child in treatment for a form of pediatric cancer. FGP provides support for our families from point of contact until the end of treatment. FGP focuses the majority of their efforts on the parents to alleviate their stress through both emotional and financial support, allowing the parents to better care for themselves and their families. Presently, FGP has two different programs that focus on the parents’ stress, health and wellness.
Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) addresses the challenges of systemic poverty on the community, and how these challenges affect families and prevent them from thriving. We provide on-ramps to opportunity, teach and bolster skills to foster prosperity, and believe that every family, child and individual should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential. The needs of Northern Virginia are great, and they are oftentimes hidden. 85,000 children in Northern Virginia live in poverty and 1 out of every 15 people is at risk of hunger.
