Oasis NC

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) now affects 1 in 68 children (1 in 42 for boys) and is defined as a developmental disability that causes significant social, communication, and behavioral difficulties. Although many children with autism may look “normal”, their social-communication deficits leave them feeling lonely, frustrated, rejected, and a target for bullying. Founded by two special education teachers, OASIS NC is a 501(c)3 non- profit organization committed to providing research-based programs that significantly impact individuals with autism in all areas of their lives. Our staff is unparalleled in its dedication and enthusiasm for teaching not only academics, but also many social-communication skills we take for granted every day. We teach our students how to join in, take turns, have a conversation, and make friends so they can experience the same birthday parties, play dates, and sleepovers as typically developing children. Most of the children that come to OASIS NC have experienced many failures, academically and socially, and are at great risk for low self- esteem, anxiety, and depression. By providing a place where they feel safe, accepted, and appreciated for who they are, it is our ultimate vision to cultivate happy, problem-solving, productive members of our community.
