Life’s Kitchen is dedicated to transforming the lives of young adults by building self-sufficiency and independence through comprehensive food service and life skills training, placement in the foodservice industry, and continuing education. Our vision is to provide a space where young adults can access educational resources, tools, and opportunities they need to enhance their self-worth, live independently, and realize their full potential. Life’s Kitchen was founded in 2003 by local restaurateur Rory Farrow and is a nonprofit social enterprise providing Opportunity Youth (formally at-risk youth) 16-20 years of age with wrap around work and life skills. Through our Workforce Development, Food Service, Life Skills, and GED Training Program, trainees receive the valuable skills and resources they need to become independent, financially stable, and successful. In addition to their foodservice training, trainees attend life skills and employability classes each week. The curriculum covers a broad range of topics, including financial literacy, healthy relationship skills, tenant rights and responsibilities, and effective resume writing. Additionally, trainees who did not complete high school have access to GED tutoring and test-taking support. As a Model Member of the Catalyst Kitchens Network, Life’s Kitchen is a recognized leader in the field of food service social enterprise.
