Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding Program

The Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding Program has been providing horseback riding lessons and equine activities for more than 34 years to Frederick County residents who are diagnosed with mental, physical and/or emotional disabilities. More than 70 clients, their families, and the approximately 200 volunteers who perform over 5000 hours of service each year are the “TRP” family. Our volunteers are essential to motivate and support our riders in building the “I Can Do It Attitude” – learning basic horsemanship skills; improving muscle tone, balance and posture. Therapeutic riding is an integral part of or rider’s lives, improving verbal and receptive communication skills, socialization skills, self-confidence, mental and physical well-being, motor skills, and much more. Our riders love to ride and be with the horses and their volunteers.
