It Only Took 12 Months.

“Impact Venture Capitalists!”

Morning Team…

Good news my friend. I’ve been working at it for over a year. Sorry, by the way, that I missed last week’s Five Impact Friday. My kids and I, with my wife and a few friends, spent the weekend in Bend, OR.

“Sun River” is a little resort community there.

So we hit the water park. Floated the river, did some paddle boarding. All that fun “summer” stuff.

But now, here were are back to work. And I just got notice. We finally secured the domain: www.ImpactClub.com. It’s not active yet. The sites are still under construction. For almost a year now, though…

I’ve worked with 4 different domain brokers to secure that URL.

I have:

www.TheImpactClub.com… www.ImpactClubProject.com…

And about 100 other variations.

But nothing compares to that one. Two words. Simple. Can’t be forgotten. Impact. Club. Dot com. I even tried to convince myself, “TheImpactClub.com” would be ok, because North Face, the clothing company, is actually The North Face. But then that scene from the Social Network kept ringing in my mind, where Timberlake’s character (Sean Parker) tells Zuckerberg.

“By the way… Drop “The”… Just ‘Facebook’ …

It’s cleaner.”

Well now, we’ve done it. No “The.” Just www.ImpactClub.com. And maybe this doesn’t excite you, but it sure excites me. I just wish… it didn’t cost me 12-months and small fortune. In the grand scheme, a bargain…

But still painful.

It just goes to show how much I believe in Impact Club and all of you. If I didn’t believe in the greatness of what we’re doing – I’m as pragmatic as they come – then I wouldn’t continue to invest in this vehicle.

After summer.

We’ll be back to launching several new Impact Clubs each month – as we, together, push toward that annual projected donation to local charities of over $1 million and more than $250,000 per quarter.

We’re already more than halfway there!!!

PS: More than $26,000 was donated in the last 3 days alone. Great job all Impact Club Temecula and Conejo Valley members. Your local communities are lucky to have such great people! (Note – sorry about the image quality above. We have better shots, but haven’t gotten the footage back from videographer yet. His plane lands in PDX this afternoon, from San Diego around 4pm.)

Vision & Beliefs

It’s just a fact: “You can’t do it alone.”

Whether it’s a successful business or a charitable foundation. You need good people bought into the Mission-of-what-you’re-Fighting-to-achieve. And it is a fight. Impact Club is where I deploy the capital from my main businesses.

So the challenge becomes, how do you get everyone on the same page?

This past week, I flew three new hires in from the East coast to the West coast, to present to them the bigger picture. My long time employees know the mission. Inside and out, they can repeat it.

But just as important are our newbies.

From day 1 – they too need know what we stand for.

WHY we do what we do!

The mark of a Conscious Capitalist is to create a thriving and profitable business so that that asset and resource can be used for a greater good. John Mackey, founder of Whole Foods, wrote the book on it…

Conscious Capitalism:

It’s not always easy, though, to get team members to see the bigger picture. Yesterday I let a very talented young man go, because he couldn’t grasp it. His attitude was undermining our culture.

“How we will build the future”

This was the talk I delivered a few days back: https://vimeo.com/227450277/ca2dfc2112

Core principles discussed:

– We Are Storytellers
– We Are Engineers
– Passion & Creativity vs. Swiss Watch
– Dependability = Most Important Trait
– Work Ethic
– We Are Problem-Solvers

If you run a business of any kind or charitable foundation, please share with your staff and employees if you feel it’s relevant. In one way or another, I hope it inspires or sparks an idea that you can deploy in life or business.

PS: If we created some Impact Club SWAG – would you interested?

Hats or laptop stickers? Water bottles, different style T-shirts? Branded Impact Club tote bags, etc? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Also, if you know of someone who is super-knowledgeable in sourcing and e-commerce setup (as it applies to apparel), I would love for you to introduce me.

Thank you!
