Stephen Monaco Nutrition and Genetics Fund
Jana Monaco
Success in Early Screening

Every year, millions of newborn babies across the Nation are screened for rare inherited metabolic disorders shortly after birth. If not detected early, these conditions can cause sudden death or irreversible brain damage. Stephen Monaco suffered severe brain damage at age 3 1⁄2, because his disorder, isovaleric acidemia (IVA), was not included on the panel of screenable disorders at the time of his birth. Our charity was created three years ago to honor Stephen and to support this program that provides diagnostic testing, evaluation and management for patients with inborn errors of metabolism.

Cold Capital Fund
Liz Lord
Putting A Cap On Cancer Hair Loss

Launched in late 2017, Cold Capital Fund provides financial assistance to DC/MD/VA chemotherapy patients who want to prevent hair loss using scalp cooling/cold caps but cannot afford it. Hair loss is the most devastating side effect of chemotherapy. Nearly 10% of cancer patients will opt out of treatment because of it and over 50% of cancer patients consider hair loss the most traumatic aspect of chemotherapy. Now FDA- cleared, scalp cooling works. Our goal is to give those patients the choice to try and prevent hair loss regardless of their ability to afford it.
