Life Is A Funny Thing.

“Impact Venture Capitalists!”

Hello Team…

Life is a funny thing.

Things don’t always work out the things you want. You plan. You prepare. You envision the outcome. But then it happens. You come up short of those expectations. Maybe you feel dejected. Like you failed in someway.

And this feeling of failure can be compounded, if the results of those who came before you, were superior to yours. John runs the race. Finishes in 3 minutes, 5 seconds. Steve goes. He finishes in just under 3 minutes. Suzy, she’s next, and by God, she beats Steve by a full 31 seconds.

Then it’s your turn, and damn if it’s not like running through quick sand.

Your time?

5 minutes… 48 seconds… The slowest yet.

I remember being in 8th grade, the winter after I shattered my leg in a snow skiing accident. During those 6 months in a cast, I gained something like 50 lbs. And just like that, I went from one of the most athletic kids. To being the fatty who got picked last. Maybe my friends didn’t see it that way…

But, when you’re picked last everyday, that’s how it felt.

I’ve never forgotten that feeling.

And, occasionally, when something in life goes “not as planned,” I think back to that moment – to remind myself, and the others that are affected – that it’s not about how you start, it’s about how you finish.

Ask Tom Brady…

And the New England Patriots.

Which is why I’m so proud of Impact Club Conejo Valley. When they launched last month – they did so with just 55 members. This, I’m sure, was disappointing to Jay, who spearheaded the launch. And I know it disappointed other members too, as they compared their member count to other Impact Clubs.

But I reminded them:

“A movement is not defined by numbers. It’s defined by conviction.” Which is another way of saying, “It’s not about how you start. It’s about how you finish.” Here is the documentary from their event: https://vimeo.com/216213437

So proud of all of you – keep up the fight to Impact our communities!

Upcoming launch dates in New Cities:
