Matt’s Place Foundation
Born and raised in Coeur d’Alene, former Marine, Matthew Wild was diagnosed with ALS in 2015. After learning about the horrible financial toll the disease can have on families without the support of the VA, he and his wife founded Matt’s Place Foundation. Together, their mission is to continue to spread awareness of the disease, as well as to build “smart homes” for families to live in while they navigate the disease. The foundation also provides families that need assistance with remodeling, such as ramps and bathroom remodels. The homes are designed to allow each patient to have dignity and independence, by allowing them to navigate their environment with voice, cell phone and eye gaze technology. These homes are designed to keep the family together and create memories in their final years. While Matthew feels that research and other foundations have made progress over the last few years in combatting the effects of the disease, there is still much to be done. The family is left with the devastating toll of the caring giving and are left with little. By providing housing assistance for families, it relieves one less stress in an impossible situation that many families struggle to maintain.
