Through Impact Club, as Impact Venture Capitalists, we invest heavily in local charities that demonstrate a powerful “Story Engine,” and have proven their willingness to fight for their cause – by competing in and winning a high-stakes competition. As a result, Impact Club, through Impact Venture Capitalism has dramatically multiplied the Impact that a single person can have on charities in their local community.
The Charities
The mission of Communities In Schools of Cape Fear is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. To fulfill our mission, we place staff directly inside targeted, high-need public schools, who work directly with vulnerable students and those with the greatest risk of dropping out throughout the school day. We empower over 1,000 students to stay in school each year. Our trained student support specialists do this by partnering with counselors and teachers, mobilizing the community to offer extra support, and doing whatever it takes to help their students succeed.
In 1980, hospice care in Wilmington started with a 28 year old nursing student named Sandy Morgan. She and her husband were among our first volunteers. Sandy dreamed of a life helping others. She didn’t know she would become our first patient, or that her illness and her journey would inspire a forty year legacy that is the core of our mission to this today – to provide the highest level of care and comfort to patients with life-limiting illnesses; support and counseling to families; and education to the community.
Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard is an emergency food bank, open 5 days a week, run completely by volunteers. In 2016, we served almost 32,000 people, 1/4th of those people were kids. Clients choose food that will sustain their families for 3-5 days a month. Mother Hubbard’s addresses the most basic need: survival. We are the bridge that helps our clients travel from desperation to hope.
