Operations Team Member – Vancouver, WA

Got 20 Minutes? Let’s Get Started…

ImpactClub® is a privately funded company unlike any other. And with that, comes the need to protect what makes it special. That is our beliefs. You don’t build greatness, or achieve what others say is impossible, by settling for average employees, contractors or team members. We have one mission. “To be the strongest community in Every Community,” by converting every ImpactClub® member into a powerful Storyteller. Our voice is, and always will be, more powerful than our money. But more powerful than even our voice, is our mind.

What is yours made of? That is what I want to know…

1 – What do you feel “called” to do?

If you’re not driven by a massive purpose, then what happens when shit gets hard? Will you quit, give up? Or will you double-down, and re-commit, because you’re driven by a passion, purpose, and conviction deep inside? If you quit on you. You’ll quit on me. You’ll quit on your team. So, if you don’t feel called to do anything big or important, then it doesn’t matter what the “job description” is, because this ain’t home for you.

2 – Do you have the kind of “sustained discipline” that confuses people?

Because if you don’t, we can stop here. If you think about anyone, who is great at anything. And if you look close, you will find their secret to be “sustained discipline.” They didn’t just try it once. Or twice. They kept at it. Until their mind, or hands, or eyes bled, to achieve mastery.

I wrote about that here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1910161992390370

3 – Want to know our biggest “hiring” mistake?

I hope you do, because if you don’t, then I’d say you lack curiosity. And further, our hiring process was devised through 30+ hires. Said different, errors, mistakes and mis-steps. That’s a lot of painful, and expensive experience. Which brought us to re-evaluate the entire process of how we screen applicants.

4 – How about being an “underdog,” is that you?

Steve Jobs talked about the “Crazy ones.” In fact, his quote: “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently – they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

It’s us against the world: https://www.facebook.com/ryanfletcherhq/posts/1911537218919514

5 – In your life, what are you “Committed” to change?

Beyond our mission to breed Storytellers and to donate millions of dollars to local charities, through tenets of Elevated Philanthropy and Impact Venture Capitalism. We believe in the quest to continually better ourself. Mind. Body. Business. Relationships. Meaning, this job isn’t just about work. It’s about growth, personal growth, in all areas of your life that lead to meaning and fulfillment.

We all have weaknesses: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1917810764958826

6 – Do you admire the “tenacity” of CrossFit?

I always thought of CrossFit® as kind of a fringe sport. And it is. But the more I studied it, the more I realized how and why it grew like wildfire. It went from one man in a Santa Monica gym, to a worldwide “cult” that produces superhuman athletes. Is it because of the science and methodology? Partly. But more than that, it’s because of the practitioners of the sport, known as Fire Breathers!

Massive camaraderie: https://www.facebook.com/ryanfletcherhq/posts/1891502317589671

7 – The difference of “Push vs. Survive,” are you familiar?

This is the psychological component of mental toughness. Often, what looks easy when completed by someone else, takes everything we have to give, to achieve even a mediocre version. Some people deliberately push themselves, while others fight to survive. The question is, how hard will you fight to survive, day after day, showing sustained discipline, so that one day you may deliberately push?

Mastery brings effortlessness: https://www.facebook.com/ryanfletcherhq/posts/1920083058064930

8 – Committed vs. Interested – which are you?

Lots of people say they’re committed to something, but then when it gets challenging, that truth is revealed. They lied. They weren’t really committed. They just said they were committed. In reality, they were just interested. Which represents a major difference when it comes to working in a team.

Interested people are annoying: https://www.facebook.com/ryanfletcherhq/posts/1932666886806547

9 – “Change is inevitable,” can you roll with that?

When people refuse to change, when change is necessary, it means they keep rowing in the same direction they’ve been rowing when they’re teammates have all started rowing in the opposite direction. This is problematic, because ultimately, we’re all in the same canoe. So, if you’re rowing south, and we’re all rowing north. Then you will be holding us back, or at least, slowing us down.

Change needs to be embraced: https://www.facebook.com/ryanfletcherhq/posts/1907272512679318

10 – Can you diffuse “Negative” emotions?

There are two types of people: Leaders, who lead, inspire, and who know how to solve problems through superior communication. Then there are followers, who bitch, whine, and only make problems worse, by complaining about how they wish things were. The leaders, of course, move an organization forward. While the other group, by not controlling their emotions, practicing poor communication, sabotage an organization.

Those who sabotage, aren’t tolerated: https://www.facebook.com/ryanfletcherhq/posts/1914327141973855

11 – “Team vs. Family,” know the key difference?

Many organizations like to use the “family analogy” to describe their company. “We’re like one big family.” These, unfortunately, are the organizations that eventually fail. Because in a family, you love unconditionally. When a family member let’s you down, they don’t get kicked out. On a team, however, players understand they must perform. Without performance, winning isn’t possible.

At ImpactClub®, we like to win: https://www.facebook.com/ryanfletcherhq/posts/1912976092108960

Job Description:

Each branch of our company is unique and operates completely different from one to the next. Those process (within their departments) will need to be managed, from introduction to completion, then throughout the relationship with the client and or team! This means you will need to be organized. We use Basecamp, and checklists, as a means to ensure this. But you’ll need to be diligent about executing the process, documenting the projection completion checkpoints and for building out processes, where they are needed. Every step needs to be managed. Being and staying organized is a critical part of this position. Creativity and “outside the box” thinking are great and encouraged, but chaos is something we can’t tolerate. Business is chaotic enough. We can’t take anymore.

So, the ideal person for this position should be capable of effective project management. Further, he or she should be able to spot where the process could be improved. We are constantly streamlining the processes that we’ve designed, to constantly improve them. So your input here will be valued and appreciated. In a sense, you’ll be the CEO of each process or project. Above all, we want you to know that your work matters! – you will be an integral part of this team. Making a lasting difference and impact in our client’s lives. IMPORTANT: We do not want to micro-manage you. We want to help you learn the process. Then we want to turn you loose — to do what you do best – at the highest level possible. Your communication skills will also need to be impeccable, as we’ll be coordinating back and forth with other providers/vendors/contractors to most effectively complete each process.

Responsibilities:

Gain a deep understanding of our audience, current, and future product goals & vision

Continue to grow by reading constantly, researching and asking questions. Be the master of your craft.

We use Basecamp as our project management solution. If you’re not familiar, you’ll be trained on how to use it and quickly grow to love it. This is KEY to our success as a company. Basecamp is where ALL of our processes are built and where ALL of our communication takes place. The idea is that any member of our team could be anywhere in the world and our business/company will move forward without a hitch.

Manage and optimize the process. This isn’t simply a check-list position, where you’re told to follow instructions. The process is your baby, and you should own it. This means continually looking for ways to improve it. You will work closely with our Operations gal Ashley, or as our members refer to her “Hurricane Ashley,” (that’s a story for a different day) to continually streamline each and every process.

Be accountable while holding your team accountable. Meaning, practice what you preach. The process will not work if everyone is not using it to its full potential. This starts from the top and trickles down. YOU will need to be a master of the process or be driven and self-motivated enough to become a “master” of the process. You will also be in charge of making sure your team is executing the process 100%, every day and for every project. YOU can’t be passive nor a micro-manager. The processes are designed to keep our teams on track, increase flow and productivity while allowing them to maintain their independence and growth.

Superior communication. The essence of this position is coordinating dozens and dozens, if not a hundred or more different steps, to get each team members’ business transactions completed. Admittedly, it can be frustrating when people don’t pick up on things as quickly as you might, but if someone has to ask, then perhaps we didn’t train well enough. Maybe we weren’t the best teachers. The thing about the superior communicator is, he or she always accepts responsibility for the misunderstanding. Then he or she asks, “How may I explain that more clearly?” When a better explanation is then offered, that new answer can then be updated in the process to prevent future (similar) miscommunications.

Triage effectively and track over a dozen different processes for multiple departments at once. Different team members, keep in mind, are often at a different place within their process. So organization and a mind for staying on top of many moving pieces is essential.

Work as a part of the team. We have fun. We love each other, but first and foremost we are teammates. Teams strive to win. Which means every team member must perform. To provide one another the best work environment possible, teamwork is critical.

Required Education & Experience:

We don’t give a shit about a college degree. Your work ethic will speak for itself. Your willingness to learn will speak for itself. Your passion for being the best you can be will speak for itself. A piece of paper – a college degree – does not “qualify” or “disqualify” you. Only you, based on your Character traits, can qualify or disqualify you.

We’ve come across a lot of stupid people that have 10 years experience. So no, just like a college education, “experience” does not qualify or disqualify you. But here’s what we’re looking for. Someone who can take on task, set a deadline, stays organized and completes that task on time with 100% accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness. If you tell us it will be done Tuesday at 5 pm. Then it needs to be done Tuesday by 5 pm. Further, you need to have the “chops” to deliver great work. If something unexpected comes up, an emergency, we get it. It happens. We all have our outside lives that include kids and other types of obligations. But that kind of “delay” should be the exception, not the rule. And here’s why: We operate under the constant pressure of deadlines, so any delay from you, in your project, may derail the entire train. Our team needs to be able to count on you. And you need to be able to count on us. If you need anything – we’re a team – We will get it for you. We will fight for you. We’ll battle together. So we must be able to depend on you. Your chops. Your skills. Your character. Your work ethic. All of it!

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with Basecamp

• Experience with Infusionsoft, Microsoft, Evernote or other project management software.

• Extreme lover of office supplies & the Container Store.

• An interest in learning new technologies and ways to do business

• Doesn’t eat their crust
