Wilderness Science Education
Founded in 2000 by two alternative school teachers, Wilderness Science Education (dba Wild Science Explorers) is a non-profit organization that takes low income teens on 3-5 day science education trips down the Lower Salmon River and 1-2 day trips on the Snake River near Celebration Park. Participants study stream ecology, botany, and geology while also participating in natural resource monitoring and service projects for the BLM. They also take part in team-building activities, learn Leave No Trace camping skills, and gain whitewater rafting experience. These trips are a great way to introduce kids to the outdoors and watershed stewardship who might not otherwise have the opportunity for this type of experience. The majority of our guides are also teachers. Mission Statement: Our mission is to inspire young people to connect to the natural world through educational adventures that spark curiosity, stewardship, and a love of the outdoors.
