Newby-ginnings of North Idaho, Inc.

Newby-ginnings was created in October 2013 in memory of SPC Nicholas Newby who was KIA in Baghdad, Iraq on July 7, 2011. The organization’s mission is to provide resources, referrals and essential personal and household items to Veterans, active military and their families as well Gold Star Families at absolutely no cost to them. There are no income eligibility requirements or any kind of proof of need necessary. All that is required is proof of military service, past or present, for the client or an associated family member. We just celebrated 5 years and over 2500 clients! Newby-ginnings achieves this mission by accepting donations of basic but essential household items, medical equipment, clothing, shoes, and cold weather gear from the community. These items are then “processed” to ensure that they are clean and functional before being placed on the shelves for distribution in our “shop.” Every day we meet clients that are struggling financially; they are struggling with the VA system, health issues, PTSD, and TBI. We have found that Newby-ginnings is place where they can come, not only for basic household necessities, peer support, resources, and referrals but for respect for time served and sacrifices made for our country.
