Honor Flight of South Willamette Valley
South Willamette Valley Honor Flight is a member of the national Honor Flight Network. We are a non-profit organization and raise money to take our senior veterans to Washington, D.C., free of charge, to visit their Memorials and receive the “Thank You” for serving our country that most never received when they came home. We give priority to World War II veterans and terminally ill veterans from any conflict, then Korean War veterans, and then Vietnam War veterans. Average cost per veteran to go on their Honor Flight from this area is nearly $1,000. Ninety-six percent of every dollar we raise goes directly to the cost of getting the veterans on their Honor Flight. We are a volunteer based organization with no paid positions. Volunteers who travel on an Honor Flight pay their own expenses. Since March, 2012, we have transported 503 veterans on their Honor Flight, and have another 45 scheduled to go from May 17-20. After the May Honor Flight, we still have over 180 area veterans on our waiting list. As long as we can raise the money, we will continue operations until every veteran on our waiting list has made their Honor Flight.
