The Carousel Center, Inc.

Founded in January 2000, The Carousel Center, Inc. (TCC) opened its doors due to the efforts of the Wilmington Junior League, NHRMC ED, local county DSSes, DAs, and the Rape Crisis Center of Coastal Horizons. This collaboration of community professionals recognized that child abuse victims had special service needs, both to address medical needs and preserve forensic evidence (to ensure holding child predators accountable) AND, most importantly, for the child survivors and their families to have quality therapy services to heal from the traumatic impact of the abuse. Integral to this mission, TCC assists community partners in law enforcement and child protective services to hold child abuse perpetrators accountable, while simultaneously assisting child survivors to do the hard work of healing and get back to simply being children. TCC offers an aggressive 8 standard Child Medical Exam (CME) and 4 standard forensic documentation appointments per week and ADDITIONAL 3 Emergency CME and 2 forensic documentation appointments/week. Simultaneously, Child Trauma Therapists maintain an 18 sessions/week schedule for evidence-based Child & Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI) or Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TCC’s Trauma Therapy efforts provide quality therapy services for child victims, their non-offender, adult caregivers, and their siblings, regardless of their insurance status or ability to self-pay.
