Boxes of Basics
Boxes of Basics is on a mission to provide local children in need with quality clothing. Founded in 2018 by a stay-at-home mom, Sarah Tyndall, Boxes of Basics works to collect quality gently used and new clothing from the community. Volunteers spend hours sorting and hand-selecting outfits. Each outfit is carefully wrapped, labeled and packed in a box. Each “Box of Basics” contains an entire seasonal wardrobe of new and gently used clothing including 5 school outfits, 3 play outfits, 3 pajamas, 1 “Sunday Best” outfit, a winter coat, new socks, new underwear, shoes, and an age-appropriate book. Everything a child needs for the season is lovingly wrapped and packed in their “Boxes of Basics” and distributed through school social workers and other organizations helping local children in need. When a child receives their Box of Basics, we want them to feel like they are opening a gift. Since its launch in 2018 Boxes of basics has given the give of a seasonal wardrobe to over 350 local children at over 25 schools and organizations in Prince William County.
