I’ve always been a fat girl. A stupid girl. Unworthy of love. I am a failure. Depressed. Lonely. Lost. I’ve attempted suicide. Been abused. Raped. My parents divorced. I was homeless. I got lost in the shuffle. My brother is in jail. I am raising his daughter. I am 22 years old. I have two children of my own. I’ve been bullied. Humiliated by teachers. Fired from my job. I’ve done drugs. Seen my parent overdose. I am the first one in my family to finish school. I am lost. I am stuck. But, I am ready to take a step forward…These are just a few statements we’ve heard in interviews with young women who come to us seeking mentorship. We meet young women from all walks-of-life. We are privileged to hear their tender stories, the good, the bad, sometimes the ugly. We get to help them find, see and appreciate their true value. We do this by listening, providing access to volunteer mentors and by offering programs that promote awareness, connection and positive growth. Sprinkle in a lot of love and you’ve got Woman to Woman Mentoring, Inc. We help young women thrive.
