Our Story
WellMama is a nonprofit organization that provides perinatal mental health support to new, expectant, and grieving parents in Lane County. We offer emotional support regarding all reproductive health events, including pregnancy, birth, postpartum, adoption, infertility and perinatal loss. Our services include one-on-one text support, in-person support groups, online support, and case consultations—all offered free of charge. We offer prevention-focused wellness workshops that decrease risk of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders like postpartum depression through proven mechanisms including movement, nutrition, outdoor time, skill building, and psychological reflection. WellMama is dedicated to raising community awareness of the importance of pregnancy and postpartum mental health by providing education and resources to healthcare providers and perinatal professionals. Lower healthcare costs can be achieved by preventing Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders through peer support and community-based wellness programs. In Oregon, 1 in 4 birth parents suffer from Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders like postpartum depression and PTSD from birth trauma. Untreated Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders come with an economic burden of approximately $14 billion annually on our society. Health care specific costs are estimated to increase $3.4 billion when Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders go untreated, associated with adverse and costly outcomes such as longer peripartum hospital stays, preterm birth, reduced breastfeeding, and infant disease and death.
