Our Story

Walking Tall Wilmington was established in February of 2017 as a mobile outreach organization. We focus on individuals experiencing poverty, many of whom are unsheltered. We share meals 5 days a week at the Riverwalk downtown, providing breakfast 3 days and lunch the other 2 days. In addition, we provide essential needs of warmth, shelter, food, and basic healthcare, through the provision of blankets, sleeping bags, tarps, tents, clean socks, shoes, backpacks, high-protein snack items, water/coffee, transportation to doctor appointments, and assistance with obtaining healthcare services – just to name a few things. However, at the very core of everything we do, Walking Tall Wilmington exists to build interpersonal relationships with the individuals we live life with, allowing them to experience community in a safe place, building self-worth and dignity. We were incorporated in July of 2018 and received our IRS non-profit status in November of 2018. Our hope is to continue to provide spaces for individuals in need of community and relationship. Raising awareness of the injustices and barriers our friends face is essential to our mission and vision.
