Our Story
The Good News Community Kitchen (TGNCK) is a 501(c) 3, non-profit organization, with a mission to rebuild and strengthen communities by fighting hunger one meal at a time. We take pride in providing assistance to our fellow Service Members (SM) in need. We work diligently to accomplish our mission through our Core Four programs: Mobile Meals, Hygiene Heroes, Trends to Transition, and Warm Winters. We provide over 9,000 meals, 3,800 hygiene kits, 800 fully supplied backpacks, and hundreds of winter coats and blankets to those in need throughout Northern Virginia and The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area each year. In 2018, we launched our S.T.E.M. initiative “Excellence through Exposure”. TGNCK was founded and is lead by Army Veteran, Mercedes N. Kirkland-Doyle. Mercedes holds 18 years federal service and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Management with UMUC. We visualize citizens throughout Virginia and the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan uniting together to facilitate clothing drives to assist women and men transitioning back into the workforce, distributing hygiene bags and meals-to-go to the hungry, collecting coats and blankets to distribute to the unsheltered and sheltered underserved to keep warm in the winter. We are always looking for volunteers to assist with meal preparations, meal deliveries, drives, and production of hygiene bags.
