Our Story

Cindy Morgan was introduced to the needs of homeless and foster youth through her father’s life experience. At age four, he was placed in the Maryland foster care system, living in four homes over fourteen years. During his junior year of high school, he was abandoned and left to live alone in an old farmhouse with no electricity or running water. Nobody knew. His story inspired Cindy to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer for youth in foster care. Her appointed youth entered the system at age fifteen. Over the course of three years, he went from one Residential Therapeutic Center to another. At age eighteen, he signed himself out. After three months of emancipation, she found him living in a wooded area, sleeping on a cardboard box with one blanket and a backpack. All he ever wanted was a home. So, in 2018, she set out to create one. With the help of three CASA volunteers, the retired Founder/Executive Director of a residential job training center, a real estate agent, an attorney, a social worker, and many other volunteers, Steadfast became a 501(c)3 non profit organization in 2019.
