Our Story

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic volunteer organization, leads individuals to join together to offer person-to-person service to the poor and the suffering. And in doing this work, we all enrich our lives spiritually. The Society serves those in need regardless of creed, ethnic or social background, health, gender or political opinions. When people need help, we’ll be there. We serve everyone. Period. Nearly 700 volunteers and a few staff members directly help tens of thousands of our friends and neighbors throughout Southwestern Idaho. Our work here is built around the core value of Society. When someone calls one of the Helpline numbers throughout Southwest Idaho, they are accessing a system that has been in place since 1833 when our founders met with the poor, listened to their needs and offered understanding and any physical support available. Our home visitors belong to ten conferences from the Caldwell area, through Nampa, Meridian and Boise and on to Mountain Home. Each individual who calls is assigned to a conference near where they live, and St. Vincent de Paul volunteers go out to visit the person or family in their home to determine how best they can be helped.
