Our Story
Learning Lab’s mission is to “transform the lives of adults and families through personalized education.” Our students (ages 2 months to 77 years) come from more than 50 countries and have a wide array of literacy skills and levels of education. Most all are low to very low income. We provide literacy classes to help adults improve their reading, writing, math, and English language skills, or earn their GED or US Citizenship. Classes feature individualized lesson plans, with computer-assisted learning, designed by professional educators and implemented by volunteer tutors. Each student is tested and interviewed to determine literacy levels, educational goals, barriers, family income, and employment status. They study to reach their own goals, from advancing their reading skills or getting a better job, to learning the high school subjects and critical thinking skills needed to pass the GED.
