Our Story

A current or new disability diagnosis requires support services to live life to the fullest. Imagining someone was recently discharged from the hospital and now requires use of a wheelchair what would be the first steps to take? When they arrive home, they need a way to get inside their home if they have stairs, a way to shower, navigate through their home, and prepare meals. After applying for Social Security Disability, they realize it will be a long waiting period and food bank services are needed. The individual then begins to think about how to get to the food bank and how to access the community with a wheelchair. What are their public transportation and vehicle modification options? The disAbility Resource Center is a nonprofit organization that requires 51% of employees and Board of Directors to self-identify as having a disability. Our philosophy is that people with disabilities should have a choice about service implementation. Your Voice. Your Choice. Last fiscal year we provided Information and Referral services to 673 individuals, case management to 132 individuals, assisted 25 individuals with finding housing that were previously homeless, offered 30 classes for youth and provided Peer Support Counseling to 103 individuals.
