Our Story
Planting Possibilities was incorporated in 2011 with the mission of providing job skills training and fulfilling volunteer opportunities to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Lake County, Indiana. We operate an educational size greenhouse and a ½ acre garden on the campus of Campagna Academy in Schererville. Through our bi-weekly horticultural classes we offer our students, all young adults with autism or other developmental disabilities, the opportunity to experience the emotional rewards of working with their hands and minds to produce a meaningful product. It is our goal to build a job training center in Lake County to provide culinary, hospitality, horticulture and business training opportunities to more adults with disabilities who want to be employed in the community. Lake County has approximately 490,000 residents. The CDC reports that 14% of the general population has some form of developmental disability. If only 5% of that 14% of Lake County residents are adults with developmental disabilities who want to – and are able to – work in the community, that is more than 3,000 people. Lake County does not have a training facility to help these adults fulfill their goal of employment. It is our goal to build that training center.
